Universities reached by Seoul Metro Line 1
In the 3rd article, I explained how comfortable and convenient Seoul Metro is. Today, I will introduce universities around Seoul Metro Line 1, dark blue line, about how to get there with a short introduction of each university. Line 1 is the longest route, covering a large area. So there are many universities that can be reached by.
Here are some universities on subway Line 1.
Dongdaemun-gu(Dongdaemun district) of Seoul has famous universities and they are close to each other. From the Hoegi station you can reach 4 universities.
1.Kyung Hee University(Seoul Campus) Link
Kyung Hee University(KHU) is 10~15 minutes walking distance from the Hoegi Station. You can take the Maheul-bus(mini-bus) from the station to the Main gate of university. Also, You can get off at the stop-Hankuk University of Foreign Studies(HUFS)- to get there by the rear gate. The rear gates of each university are so close, so if the building you would visit is near the rear gates, it would be more convenient.
KHU has reputations for the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management and the Department of Korean Language for foreign students. It has a beautiful campus scenery with cherry blossoms in the spring.
2. Hankuk University of Foreign Studies(Seoul Campus) Link
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies(HUFS) is 5~10 minutes walking distance from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station. From HUFS, Kyung Hee University is located up in the hill and to the other side of the hill, Korea National University of Arts is located.
The university has specialized in foreign studies, dealing with 45 languages. It is well known for its Graduate school of Interpretation and Translation and now tries to expand its speciality on Area Studies with the Graduate School of International and Area Studies.
3. KAIST College of Business Link
KAIST College of Business is located nearby Hongneung Arboretum, between Korea University and Kyung Hee University. It takes about 15 minutes by bus from Hoegi Station.
Main campus of KAIST(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) is in the city of Daejeon but only the College of Business is located in Seoul. The Business school of KAIST is a rising star in the field of management engineering, with a strong alumni network. It has various MBA tracks such as Techno MBA, Professional MBA, and Executive MBA.
4. The University of Seoul Link
To get to the University of Seoul, you have 2 options- reach from the Hoegi Station or Cheongnyangni Station. The University of Seoul is a public university, funded and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan city. So the tuition fees are rather low, compared to those of other universities.
The university has started as an Agricultural College but recently has been leading the field of Urban studies and Public administration studies in Korea.Lots of alumni are now working as governmental officers in the civil area.
5. Sungkyunkwan University(Natural Science Campus) Link
Sungkyunkwan University has two campuses- Humanities and Social Sciences Campus and the Natural Science Campus. The latter is located in the city of Suwon, Gyeonggi-do(province). It is 10~15 walking distance from Sungkyunkwan University Station, or you can take the shuttle-bus to get to the campus.
Sungkyunkwan University has the longest history among universities in Korea. It was established in 1398 as a higher education institution by King Taejo in the Chosun Dynasty. Now it is famous for its strong alumni network in grand corporate with its partnership of Samsung.
6. Inha University Link
Inha University is located in the city of Incheon. It is the nearest to the Incheon International Airport among these 6 universities. A shuttle-bus is provided by the university from Juan Station and it takes about 10~20 minutes.
Inha University has historically a strong background with the Department of Engineering. Recently, the university is supporting students to launch their own start-up companies and it is now resulting in success.

- Kwangwoon University from Kwangwoon University Station
- Korea National University of Transportation(Uiwang Campus) from Uiwang Station - Incheon National University(Jemulpo Campus) from Jemulpo Station
- Dankook University(Cheonan Campus) from Dujeong Station or Cheonan Station
- Sangmyung University(Cheonan Campus) from Dujeong Station or Cheonan Station
- Soonchunhyang University from Sinchang Station
- Kongju National University(Cheonan Campus) from Dujeong Station
- Hoseo University(Cheonan Campus) from Dujeong Station or Cheonan Station
- Namseoul University from Seonghwan Station, etc.
