Lab Overview

In this planet Earth, water is unreplaceable resource which is essential for biological, social and economic activities of human. Under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SD) adopted by UN, protecting and managing water resource and ecology have been global SD goals among the 17 goals aimed by 193 countries, including the Republic of Korea. Our lab aims at contributing the SD goals for better managing water environment and ecology. For the goal, we are developing biomolecular measurements as indicators of water quality and ecology health. An organism living in water is a set of building blocks that could be fragmented to chemicals at the molecular scale. Regulation of the biomolecules is quickly and sensitively responsive to changing water quality. Furthermore, biochemical measurement is performable using samples with microscale volume. Therefore, understanding water quality in the aspect of biomolecule dysregulation enables development of environmental indicators.
